CPOTX welcomes #2000

CPOTX is proud to announce our 2000th enrollee! We couldn't be happier to announce Maggie Byers, a 2013 Churchill grad and standout golfer, as our 2000th athlete to enter our program since our inception back in March of 1997. We look forward to many more years of service in Texas helping quality student-athletes achieve their aspirations to compete at the next level. Welcome aboard Byers family!

College Promoters has been providing professional promotion, exposure, and guidance to Texas high school athletes since March of 1997. Initially, founder Doug Smith knew it was going to be an uphill battle in San Antonio since south Texas athletes had historically been overlooked by college coaches in favor of the more visible Houston, Dallas, and Austin standouts. Doug began his vision of putting San Antonio athletes on the national recruiting map from a home office, evaluating graduates from the classes of '97, '98, & '99 by conducting his no-cost, no obligation academic and athletic evaluations at the athlete's home. Spending countless hours on the telephone introducing himself to college coaches and bragging on his small group of athletes, Doug laid the foundation for the many relationships he has built and nurtured over the last 14+ years with hundreds of college coaches in all 12 sports.

With a dramatic increase in the number of student/athletes looking to utilize Doug's personal marketing services, thanks to the success of his first 100 enrollees, he soon realized the importance of finding office space in order to provide more accessibility for his new and existing clients. Still a one-man operation, and as Doug began assembling athletes from the class of 2000, the office at 11950 Starcrest Drive, directly across from the Blossom Athletic Center, was born. Today, having turned to the 2 most qualified candidates he could find, College Promoters of Texas is a true family owned and operated business with Doug being supported by the full-time assistance of his wife, Sheri and son, Greg, as well as 8 other employees/ scouts in the field, all working closely together to manage "the most constructive teenage hangout" in all of Texas. With the aid of the #1 website in Texas that college coaches utilize to view profiles and videos of athletes in 12 different sports, coupled with the countless personal contacts our staff members make directly to college coaches all across the country, all of us here at CPOTX are proud to salute the Class of 2008 as our first group of high school graduates to receive over 1 million dollars in accepted scholarship dollars! Having recently enrolled our 1,900th athlete in March, 2011, we would like to thank all of the former athletes we have had the privilege to represent, dating all the way back to Doug's first group of only 11 students in the graduating class of 1997. Thanks to all of you for helping build CPOTX into who we are today.

Doug stands proudly next to massive LSU recruit Tommy Parsons at left, telling every family he meets, "This is the most dedicated and determined high school athlete I've ever had the privilege to represent in my 14+ years in business." With a similar passion and love for his own profession, Doug is always quick to explain to every hopeful candidate he sits down with about the hard facts regarding college recruiting. Coaches in every sport have taught him the 4 "S's" of college recruitment... Size, Strength, Speed, and Studies. Simply put, this is what separates the D-1 scholarship athlete from the D-3 player. If a high school athlete has the burning desire to compete in his or her sport in college, there is a match out there for them IF, 1) the college coaches know they exist and, 2) the athlete is academically qualified.

5Greg is all smiles at right as he begins his 10th year as the video editor at College Promoters. In his accomplished video career Greg has received countless accolades from D-1 to JUCO college coaches all across the country, complimenting him on his professionalism and attention to detail in assisting them in their evaluation of CPOTX athletes. Having surpassed over 1,500 videos produced over the last 9 years, Greg wants every high school prospect to know, "The most important step in your college recruitment is video, Video, VIDEO...". In all 12 of the sports we represent, only 10% of all the coaches we speak with ever see the high school athlete play his or her sport live. Get your game on video today if you are seriously hoping college coaches will be considering you for their teams next year!

Greg also handles the IT and website design, layout, and maintenance responsibilities in the office.

Heading into her 5th year at their family business, Sheri has certainly become an important member of the CPOTX team. After spending 22 years in medical office administration, Sheri easily transitioned into the office management chores, but has spent the last four years learning about the many facets of athletic recruiting, and assisting Greg with the ever growing cpotx.com website. She loves the flexibility that working in the family business allows, but it's the families she meets and the results she's able to provide for every enrollee that motivates her to keep our prospects' college contacts rolling in from the #1 website of it's kind in Texas. Once in awhile, even her "boss" acknowledges that bringing Sheri on board has not only taken some big burdens off his shoulders at the office, but she also handles the herculean chores of cpotx.com above even his expectations!
